CRISPR Editing

January 04, 2013

Two fascinating papers from Feng Zhang and George Church describing the use of CRISPR to edit genomic DNA.

The technique can be used to specifically disrupt a gene or - rather intriguingly, replace a gene with a new one. The approach can even be used to edit several genes simultaneously. This could become an extremely powerful technique for biological researchers.

Anne Trafton provides a tidy overview.
